The financial year 2009 (Oct08-Sep09) saw a dip of 25% in the number of US Student Visas issued. The number of student visas issued declined to 25,860, from 34,510 in 2008. Experts felt the decline in numbers of Indian students choosing to Study in the US was because of a fall in overall US financial aid figures and lesser scholarships offered by institutions rather than the US visa structure.
“Going to the US for higher education is an investment decision and in India we’re now seeing all the markets reviving and investors coming back. I think that next year, the number of students going to the US will again increase as many are now making decisions to go and doing the required paperwork,” says Mumbai-based education consultant Karan.
